Coney Island with Stephanie
Coney Island
There is no better place to get multiple lighting environments than Coney Island. Between the carnival lights of Luna Park...

5D mark II - Zeiss Milvus 50mm @ F1.4 - 1/400th - ISO 1600
And the beautiful magic hour light of the beach.
With the lens shooting as sharp as it does I had to pickup Imogenomic's Portraiture plugin. I've used it in the past and it was time to re-up my license.

5D mark II - Zeiss Milvus 50mm @ F3.2 - 1/320th - ISO 400
Here's one playing with some backlight. Shooting at 1.4 is very difficult with a manual focus lens. Near the end of the shoot I started using live view to check my focus. I think I have finally found a use for that blasted feature. I have never really been a fan of it for still photography.

5D mark II - Zeiss Milvus 50mm @ F2.0 - 1/1600th - ISO 400
This is my first time processing using Lightroom. It is time for me to bid adieu to my Aperture days. Apple will never update the product and it is time for me to stop using it before everything I have is stuck in it.

I think it is going to take some getting used to, but so will the new lens.

Thank you! I checked out your referenced article :-) It is always tough when you get a new lens. I had a friend yesterday remind me that the lens has to let YOU know what IT is and how IT wants to shoot.
Wow that Zeiss is a beast!
Seriously it really is and the manual focus is going to take A LOT of getting used to. I'm not much of a gear nut, but this is making me think about buying the 85mm as well as the 35mm. It really renders the highlights quite well.
Seems worth it with results like that!
definitely worth it. As my first photo mentor told me. Spend the money on the glass.
No truer words have been spoken.
Ooh you did a lightroom workflow video. I'm checking your post out. I am tremendously new to Lightroom.
