Camping In The Pass

Hatcher Pass, Alaska. One of the most easily accessible locations in the state and yet, one of the most beautiful. My friends and I decided to do a last minute camping trip in the mountains. We drove up the pass road to the small parking lot located at the top. We then hiked up about 15 minutes to April Bowl. Here we set up our tents and prepared for the cold night. Setting up a fire, we sat beside it for hours telling stories and enjoying the quite night. In the morning we were greeted with beautiful golden light flooding the valley below. The two lakes at the top reflected the sun and were shining a bright blue. If it had been just a little warmer we probably would have went swimming. From out campsite we then hiked up another 20 minutes and were eye level with the peaks across the valley.

In summer news: The road trip this summer has been extended to 60 days! @dimitri0610 and I will be traveling over 12,000 miles from Alaska across Canada and the United States. We plan on camping every step of the way and enjoying the long days of summer. I'll be back in August and plan on exploring even more of the state than last year.

Thank you for reading! If you visit Alaska I highly recommend Hatcher Pass as a stop along the way. The road is maintained so well in the summer you don't even need an off road vehicle to access it.
