SteemitPhotoChallenge Entries - Long Exposure - dercoco

in #photography8 years ago

Here are my entries for this week's Steemitphotochallenge. Unfortunately, Canon cameras are known for high noise levels when exposing for extended periods of time, but with the splendid noise reduction tools of Lightroom, you can really minimalize that effect.

Entry #1: Fireworks in B&W

Camera: Canon 600D
Lens: 55mm, EF-S 18-55, Canon
Aperture: f/5.6
Exposure: 6s
ISO: 400

Fireworks

This was shot on New Year's Eve. I had to exclude myself a bit from the party because I really wanted to capture an explosion with the right framing. It took me many tries but I think that the framing of this fireworks came out really nicely.

Entry #2: Glacier water, Switzerland

Camera: Canon 600D
Lens: Canon EF50mm f/1.4 USM
Aperture: f/2.0
Exposure: 30s
ISO: 100

Glacier Water

For this picture I went out at night. I always thought that the moonlight gives a really nice feeling to a picture, so I wanted to try it out for myself. This is a small river that comes from the Morteratsch Glacier in Switzerland... It was freezing cold!

Entry #3: Stilts

Camera: Canon 600D
Lens: Canon EF50mm f/1.4 USM
Aperture: f/8.0
Exposure: 30s
ISO: 100

Stilts

For this one I used a variable ND Filter. It made the water really nice and soft, but unfortunately there were many ND artefacts in the picture. Still I really like the feelings that come with it. Next time I'll just use a normal ND filter.

I enjoyed the 3rd one a lot! Exception for the depth of field. For me having all the wood sticks crusty clear would have given something! By the way... Amazing work as always!

Thanks stansmith! I also think that the depth of field in the last picture isn't that nice. This was actually a try to salvage a picture that went totally wrong. As I said, the ND filter was really bad and made a lot of artefacts in the picture. I couldn't really get rid of the artefacts, so I decided to add a fake depth of field to make the effect less visible. Now it looks more like an Instagram filter, so I guess I'll have to think of something else for my next edit...

By the way it was a creative one!
