Dragonflies are ancient insects, with fossils dating back more than 300 million years. They were flying around long before dinosaurs appeared on Earth.
Dragonflies have remarkable eyesight. Their large compound eyes consist of thousands of individual lenses, allowing them to see in almost every direction simultaneously. They can detect motion, polarized light, and even ultraviolet light.
Dragonflies are agile and skilled fliers. They can hover in mid-air, fly backward, and change direction rapidly. Their ability to fly at speeds of up to 60 miles per hour makes them one of the fastest insects in the world.
