VanDusen Botanical Garden

in #photography6 years ago

I left Vancouver for two weeks in the early spring last year to go back home to sunny Australia to visit family. At this point, it had been raining non-stop in Vancouver for at least three months, and it felt like it would never end!

I was surprised and delighted to find that when I came back two weeks later, spring had sprung! The flowers were blooming, the grass was green and the sun was out!

So it was obviously the perfect time to visit Vancouver's VanDusen Botanical Garden for the first time.

The Japanese Maples were beautiful and pink!

Secret little stone paths lead us to surprising places.

We even found a hedge maze! Thankfully we were able to find our way out of there so we could enjoy the rest of the garden :P

We found a bench nestled into a gorgeous shrub of Camellias. The smell was incredible. We even found a Camellia sinensis tea plant close by, which we were super excited to discover as we are avid tea drinkers.

Next, we found some incredibly well carved totem poles amongst tall trees, representing the indigenous peoples of the area, something that I really love learning about.

It was an amazingly sunny day at the garden, and we spent many hours learning more and more about the flora that surrounds us on a daily basis. Being able to identify the trees and shrubs growing in our region has been truly eye opening. Thanks for having us, VanDusen!
