London ~ Camden, Portobello Road Market, Holland Park, & Notting Hill

in #photography6 years ago (edited)

One of the things we like to make sure of while we’re traveling is to maintain some kind of exercise routine. Usually we’ll look for gyms in the areas we’re visiting to see if they offer day passes. We got a lucky surprise in London. Since we’re members of the YMCA here in the States we discovered were able to work out at the London YMCA for free. The Y was situated about a half mile from our Airbnb so the shots of Camden are from our walk to and from the gym.

On Saturday we met with @cryptogee who showed us around Portobello Road Market, Holland Park, and Notting Hill. We met a restaurant in the heart of the market where we shared delicious tapas, a few beers, and great conversation. Cryptogee was very well-versed in the history of the area so we learned much more than we otherwise would have. Thanks again for the amazing hospitality and an unforgettable day!

Portobello Market was a mash-up of everything you can imagine...food, trinkets, and even antiques. Notting Hill was dotted with multimillion pound real estate, some of the priciest properties in London. Holland Park (and Kyoto Garden contained within it) was one of our favorite parts of the day..when you see the pictures you'll understand why.

This happened to be the only day of the trip we got rained on but, thankfully, the shower held off until we were ready to call an Uber to get back to our home base, Covent Garden.

Slideshow of the Day

I hope you’re enjoying these posts about London. We have a few more slideshows worth of photos left to share! Do you have a question about the city? If so, please ask in the comments below.

Thank you for reading,

Eric

Beautiful trip, London is a classic city. Thanks for sharing part of it.

You're welcome! I couldn't believe how vast the city was, eight days wasn't enough to see it all.

Beautiful! It will be an unforgettable trip, the video is great, I loved Holland Park and its gardens: The greenery and flowers everywhere. The majestic peacock! A natural beauty. I read that in that park there is a giant chess, among the attractions, did you see it? Greetings, @ericvancewalton, to continue enjoying your experience. A hug.

It looks like you guys had an amazing time in London. Someday I will return and bring the family.

We most certainly did. We'll be back too, there's so much we didn't have time to catch.

I'm fascinated with this presentation, @eric!!! The images and music are incredibly delicate. I liked the mix you made between color and black and white images, as it gave the feeling of antiquity, but also of a very cosmopolitan city. I read about the Portobello market! They say it's a wonder. There's nothing like visiting markets to get to know the cities, their people, their culture, and to bring back memories. Thank you for your support. Greetings from Venezuela. Hugs.

Thanks and I'm glad you enjoyed it! I've never been to a city that has a better balance of history and modernity. We made memories that will last for many years to come. I hope all is well in Venezuela!

You could wander around London for a week and still not even scratch the surface. Coming from North America, the depth of History amazes me.

That is so true. We were there for eight full days and could have easily stayed three times as long and wouldn't have been able to see it all. It's a very good reason to return though and return we shall. : )

Wonderful slides, Eric and can see at once that you are interesting and very exciting in London, where you can visit beautiful places!

It turns out the market is beautiful and I feel very comfortable when I am here

Thank you for the video, friend..you made a very beautiful clip of the photos. I like the photos of peacocks with very beautiful tail feathers. Is that at the zoo, Eric?
Portobello market also looks very attractive with very many items. I really enjoyed your photo, sir. Have a nice day.

You're welcome! It wasn't a zoo, the peacocks were running loose in Holland Park. Hope you had a good week!

Great info I did not know they have a Y. One day maybe I will make it to London. I saw a post minutes ago where someone went to "Caffe Concerto" in central London. Looks like amazing desserts there for after your work out. Haha!

I got a history lesson when we went to the London YMCA. I was under the impression that the entire organization began in America but it started in London. The scones and clotted cream alone would be enough to warrant an extra workout. Lol.

Yes! So awesome, great to meet you guys and anytime you're in London again we have to meet up!

PS love that CBD photo, "I got 99 problems and CBD solved like 86 of them" Big lolz!

Great meeting you and the fam as well, @cryptogee! That sign cracked me up too! My mom is a big fan of CBD oil..it's helped her arthritis tremendously. I sent the picture to her right away. : )
