Canon EOS 80D review - Goodbye EOS
Yes I am selling my EOS! Not my EOS coins my Canon EOS 80D. Isn't it funny that my favorite project is named the same as my camera? Funny or a sign from the crypto gods?
If so, maybe it's time to sell my HODL'd coins. It's at a high at the moment which maybe is the best time to get rid of it and make some profit. I will have to think about this one for a while.
But this is my Canon EOS 80D which I am selling to make room and fund a full frame camera.

I come from a Nikon camera so I wasn't really used to the Canon's layout. It took a couple of outings for me to get used to the buttons and it's layout. Transitioning from another brand of DSLR is not hard, just need time of getting used to.
Image quality
It takes decent photos with a Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 for a lens. The images are not as sharp as I want it to be but it is OK. Check out the photos in my Flickr account.
My Nikon D5100 which is so much cheaper compared to the Canon has everything a new user would ever need. The Nikon's images are a lot sharper comparing to the Canon. And it was taken from Nikon's kit lens. Yes, the kit lens which was 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 was so much sharper versus the more expensive Sigma 17-55 f2.8.
Video quality
I bought this camera to pursue my fascination of videography and to create living memories that I can watch over time. And this camera does the job and meets it exceedingly well.
The quality is still the old 1920x1080P compared to the newer 4K but I didn't care about that. Just think about how big the files are that will take up your harddrive and the time it takes to upload it to youtube or cloud storage. Hence I wasn't really too fuss about that.
If you want 4K, you should opt for the more expensive Sony A7S. I hear great things about them for their quality. But expect to buy heaps of back up batteries.
I have 2 spare batteries and a main one for my Canon 80D and lasts me a whole day of usage. I mean, it's on the whole day, taking photos and videos. I can imagine the Sony will have you buying 5 spares for heavy usage.
What I love
The tilt flippy screen is what I love and really helpful when it comes to taking videos. Even for taking photos, it's great to see what you are taking just by looking down on the screen and not crouching down, straining your back and knees, looking through the viewfinder. Also when you take a selfie or start vlogging. It helps to see your composition. You don't want to be talking to your camera with a big bug in your eye or spinach in between your teeth.
Changing ISO is quick and easy. You can set how you want the buttons to function. I set it so I can easily change the ISO quickly and easily by holding a button and using the scroll wheel.
Lock the shutter speed. I always use the FPS of 23.9 so I am always using 1/50th of a second. It's great to keep that locked in and not change if I accidentally mix up with aperture and shutter controls.
Touchscreen! I love the focus touch screen. Basically point and touch where you want to focus and it does it with finesse.
Face detection is good with the camera. It just works. Very useful, again for vlogging.
Mic Input. You can easily connect a third party stereo or mono mic. I bought a Rode Go mic and it works with no hassle.
What I hate
The weight. Well the camera itself isn't really that heavy but paired with the Sigma lens, carrying them all day, walking in the hot humid Asian weather can be taxing. I love to travel and it bogs me down the whole day.
Raw file is not compatible with Adobe. I have to convert the Canons raw file so my Adobe CS6 will be able to read it. I don't know about the new Cloud Adobe if they support Canon's raw though. But this is just another step that can be time consuming.
Final words
The Canon is great for video. The 1080P is outdated but how many do you know that uses 4K? Don't answer if your friends are rich or yourself. I just don't find the need for 1080P just yet unless you want to future proof your work. Even then I'm sure 1080P will be around for a long while until its phased out like the analog TV.
Buy one if you want to start taking videos. Get Nikon for photos. OooOOOoooOOOoooo!!

STOPYou going to nikon for sure? We might be unloading our mark II. Might be willing to trade for EOS coins. You can find our email address on our website listed on our header.
Full frame canon through a (free) adobe dng converter works great. no problems for years.
Got my eye on a cheapo D600. Can't wait to just load file and edit. No more converting DNG.. Hoooray!!! Ahah
Yeah, that sounds pretty attractive. I can imagine just putting the camera near the computer and having them know to transfer. I really thought bluetooth was going to make that happen. Alas, that appears just another tool of the nsa.
We are probably heading back to wide format film photography. 120mm at least, and likely 4x5. More on that shortly.
Hey, you ever work in construction? I don't really know what you do for fiat.
I work in a warehouse. Never will I work in construction. Imagine working outside in a 41 deg celcius.
Imagine carrying a wide format camera? This D600 is heavy enough, it only has a 50 prime and a UW 17 prime.
Great overview of the camera, do you have a recommended Canon 80d gimbal to complete the setup for video?
