Autumn On The Homestead

This is my entry for @knowledge-seeker "Homestead Photography Contest"

The leaves are changing and the cold weather is soon to be here. I'm not really ready for the cold this year. Every year I seem to get a little less tolerant of the cold weather. Today I will be out splitting firewood to get ready.

Go out there and take a photos of the Autumn theme around your homestead and enter the contest. Contest Link is Here

howdy sir hhayweaver! hey firewood will warm you up, that's darn hard work, do you use a splitter?

Yes we do and thank god for that. I’d rather us a splitter then use an ax any day lol. Oh @janton If you don’t know already @hhayweaver is my step father.

howdy again enosh! yes an axe is tremendous work, really brutal! lol. A splitter is the way to go. Yes I remember now that hhayweaver is your step father but I kinda lost track of you guys off and on but I will try to be more consistent in following you two.

Yes I have a splitter and a helper (@ensoh). I am grateful for the splitter, for sure but I am even more grateful for the help. You know the old saying "many hands makes light work".

Howdy sir hhayweaver! yes sir, that's a great saying and so true, you can't much harder labor than cutting and chopping wood. Is that for a fireplace or some other type of wood heater?

I have a wood stove in our "back room" and a wood boiler in the basement. The boiler eats firewood when it is at full burn (about a cord every 1-1/2 weeks) which amounts to about 11 cords per season. It is a lot of work but if I keep the fires burning the oil consumption is almost zero compared spending over $3,500 to heat the house.

howdy sir hhayweaver! oh wow...that's a great system. And you are able to heat the house if the electric goes out?

Yes and no, the boiler requires electric to run the controls, but I have the boiler on a battery backup that keeps it going for a little while which is enough time to get the generator hooked up and running.

Excellent shot of fall giving way to winter! Burrrrr
