Art After Dark -- Halloween Party at the Guggenheim

Happy Halloween from NYC! This year saw the birth of a new tradition in the city. The Guggenheim Museum hosted its first Halloween event Art After Dark. I was lucky enough to snag a ticket from a friend and while she takes the holiday pretty seriously, creating her own costume from scratch every year, (this year she was a jelly fish), I just popped on a top hat and along we went. It was pretty cool! People were dressed up and mingling with art (and free drinks), which made for quite a scene.

The space of the museum itself is quite prestigious but lent to the mystery of the night in which one kept wondering - 'what's up ahead' as the great architectural spiral was traversed. The exhibit on at the moment is Art and China after 1989 and it too with its high-concept content added to the magic of the evening. The highlight of the night for me, however, was a girl who stood in front of Ai Weiwei's Dropping a Han Dynasty Urn and like the saying 'life imitating art' made a grand show of dropping her own valuable, her purse!
