Take a Walk to the River: NAMKHAN
Welcome to Zen Namkhan Resort. I just started as the manager here. I could thank Steemmonsters, Steemit, and Youtube/Dtube for this gig. I’ve been living in Luang Prabang since June 2018. I’m not that into phones and haven’t had a smart phone for years. The last one I had was the iPhone 5. The only thing I have is an old iPad Pro generation 1. Even though it is 2015 technology, it still works great. I have yet to see a device with a better screen or louder speakers. The outward facing camera is only 8 megapixel, but if the sun is to your back and you shoot on a clear sunny day, the pictures and videos will look fine. You can forget about getting any nice shots in the dark though.
Since this iPad only has 32 GB of memory and Apple keeps using up what little storage space there is with their NSA/CIA spyware, I had to delete some videos so I combined what great clips I had of Luang Prabang, posted it to Youtube, then Dtube hoping I’d get a few cents for Steemmonster cards and keep the memories on Youtube rather than my already full iPad. Here’s that video here:

To my great surprise, @curie liked my post and it made $24. Since I was unemployed at the time and only had my pathetically small military disability pension to survive, I started making more videos and posts to Steemit.
Being a “Youtuber” has been very helpful to me recently. I can go to tourist traps and get in for free. I was able to threaten my bank which froze my account for the great sin of living outside of the USSA and get them to unfreeze my account in fear of the bad publicity they thought I could actually bring to them. I honestly doubt I could, but it scared them enough to give me my account back.
The best thing so far is using Youtube to promote myself from teacher to a manager at a resort. I told the owner that I could make great Youtube videos and promote her hotels and resort for free.
It’s a very beautiful location. Who could complain about this office view?
I like the entrance to the resort. The maids cut up the shells of coconuts to use as soil for these plants.
One of the best things about being a foreign staff at most hotels overseas is that they give you free accommodation and three great meals a day. If you don’t go shopping, drinking, or clubbing too much you can save most of your paycheck. I’m half deaf from the Army and am glad to be away from everyone so I can enjoy my loud music, TV, and gaming.
I like to hold my breath and see how many laps I can swim underwater. So far I can only do three. It’s pathetic when compared to my younger military days, but most people think it’s impressive. Some children nicknamed me, Mr. Crocodile, once. Compliments from kids are the best.
After living in Thailand for 18 years, it’s really nice to have some cool weather. In Thailand we always said there are three seasons; hot, hotter, and hottest. I can’t remember ever needing a fire to stay warm at night there. It can get pretty chilly here in Luang Prabang, Laos at night.
This bamboo bridge is currently being repaired and is unusable right now.
It looks like something from Indiana Jones. There used to be many crocodiles here, but I’m glad the locals killed and ate them all a long time ago.
Almost to the river...
This building reminds me of that great Japanese animation, Spirited Away.
Old trees are cool. They’ve survived the Vietnam war, revolutions, and whatever other crap we humans have done.
Have you ever seen a caterpillar like this before? It doesn’t even look real. It looks like the bugs Timon and Pumba convinced Simba to eat in the Lion King.
Here’s the steps to the river. I send guests to go on river cruises from here and sometimes just chill here and enjoy the water and wave to passing boats.
People always wave and say, “Sabaidee”, as they go by.

Well, you sure got yourself to paradise, @jeremiahcustis. How much vacancy are they trying to sell? Are they looking for people to do yoga retreats etc, and can you swim in the river? I am wandering in SE Asia myself and living on STEEM. I would love to settle in somewhere to help someone like that. I was helping a resort owner with his pre-opening social media for a while, but he had trouble opening and had to delay for a year. I loved living on an empty resort for three months.
Awesome post!

The place looks wonderful. The green and the river makes a perfect combination.
