"It is easily overlooked that what is now called vintage was once brand new."

 ~ Tony Visconti

Today, with it still gloomy outside from the NEVER-ENDING RAINS here in Florida, I wanted to get some shots of things I don't usually capture. While I mostly like to capture shots of animals, insects...really any sentient creature in their natural habitat, I decided I wanted to take photos of objects that are not normally focused on or even noticed. So today, I decided to shoot some shots of a drainage grate.

Though there isn't anything inherently special about a drainage grate, you can actually get some really cool shots of it. The first few shots I took are from one aspect, focusing on the grate itself, with the flowing water blurred. The next shot is of the water in focus, cascading down into the sewers. Both shots were edited and repurposed to b&w (black & white) photographs. Here were the first two shots:

The next two shots are of the same image, yet one is full color, while the other is b&w. In keeping with the title of this post, these photos represent it exactly. Though the first two shots in this post are of a common perspective, straight on, standing above the grate, these next two are macro shots, from a close sideview focusing on the little intricacies and rust present on the grate. Though it just looks like a regular, ordinary object, there is still a story to this grate, as time/weather/other factors have manipulated this once pristine piece of iron into a worn-looking subject. Here are the second set of photos of the grate, but from a different perspective:

While flying birds, vividly colored flowers and closeup shots of shining objects will always catch the eye of a photo onlooker, there is still something so beautiful and mysterious about a regular, overlooked object. Though it might not have all the qualities of what is considered aesthetically pleasing, it still can be...from the right perspective.

One love,
