I know there is still an old payphone still operating in my area, it's about three city blocks away fro where I am and the phone company charge a lot for using it.

Oh nice, you have luck to have more one still operating, that is cool.. And, it does not surprise me to know that the company taxes the most expensive communications in view of the scarcity.
