Gymnopilus junonius - Yellow-orange cap, yellowish to brown-orange; 60-150 (250) mm in diameter, hemispherical in the youth, with the rolled up edge, later convex to the spread; dry, suede surface with fibrous brown scales inset; pulp in a thick hat.

Stipe yellow-orange, lighter than the hat, darker towards the base; 80-200 x 12-30 mm, equal, clavateous or ventral, often with a rooted-down stance; with a clear membranous partial shield under the hat, its remains form a fairly durable ring; surface with fine brown fibrils and wisps, only sprinkled above the ring.

Rare. From August to October, in bundles, on the trunks and roots of deciduous trees, especially oaks, less often on conifers.

Inedible due to the strongly bitter taste.
