How continents can change size in photos of the Earth (1 original video)

When taking a photograph of the Earth, the distance of the camera has a huge impact on the apparent size of the land masses.

I made the following video to demonstrate this effect in action. I photographed a globe from a range of different distances, but in each image I zoomed the camera to keep the globe the same size in the frame.
