All around the sponge

in #photography6 years ago (edited)

Of course, we are talking about sea sponges, very unusual and important creatures. They can be found in many water bodies around the globe. Do not think that we are talking only about the tropical seas. You can see them and much to the north. And even in our freshwater lakes.

Bonaire sponge

In the tropics, the sponge is an inseparable part of the coral reef. It combines several important functions, such as water filtration and home for various fish and arthropods. Usually life boils around large sponges. Someone is constantly hiding inside or between different branches. They look for food, or use a sponge as a way to climb higher.

This of course attracts photographers. Moreover, the coloring of the sponges is also very diverse. Very often these are bright red or crimson colors. But you can meet and amazing shades, when it seems that the sponge shimmers. On Bonair I found two kinds of similar sponges. Pink with a blue tint and sandy.

It was almost impossible to sail past them. As well as past huge, more human growth, bright orange sponges. They even at great depths flashed a bright spot. Although usually red shades at a depth without light are almost not visible. Here the poisonous shade was noticeable from afar even without a flashlight. And it's at a depth of 30 meters!

In shape, sponges can represent a variety of combinations, on the subject of pipes, and bowls. However, you can find a huge size of the weave, where it is difficult to understand what is growing from. Inside such bushes, someone lives constantly. It's like a big multi-storey house, with many different inhabitants. And as always in big houses, they really do not like when someone uninvited to them peeks.

And of course you can not pass by the most classical "tubes". On the one hand, they are very simple and concise. And on the other hand, they always have a kind of harmony that makes you stop and make another photo. And when you have a camera with a macro lens in your hands, you also have to look inside. Suddenly it will be possible to find someone interesting "at home".
