"Baby Hold On" for Market Friday ๐Ÿ’ฟ๐ŸŽค๐ŸŽถ

in #photography โ€ข 6 years ago (edited)

What originally started as a tribute to Eddie Money took on a life of its own and evolved into my entry to Market Friday, with the theme of 70s - 80s albums, music collections and stereo equipment.

Who still listens to their vinyl collection on a vintage turntable? Do you scour online resale sites, estate sales, flea markets and other places in search of adding to your music collection? What "gems" do you own? ๐Ÿ’ฟ๐ŸŽš๐ŸŽถ

Born Edward Joseph Mahoney on March 21, 1949, in Brooklyn, New York, his first career upon graduation from high school was a New York City police officer. His grandfather, father, and brother also were NYPD policemen. Fortunately for us music lovers, after just two years Eddie decided to leave the police force. In 1968 he moved to Berkeley, CA, to pursue his singing career, changed his name to "Eddie Money" in 1976, shortly thereafter he was introduced to legendary promoter Bill Graham who took him under his wings and as they say, the rest is history.

Sadly today, September 13, 2019, we learned 70-year-old Eddie Money succumbed to complications from a recent heart valve replacement less than a month after announcing he had stage 4 esophageal cancer. He leaves behind his wife of 30 years Laurie as well as four sons and a daughter (Zachary, Joseph, Desmond, Julian, and Jessie.) Eddie Money also leaves behind a long list of unforgettable hits that will live on forever.

This is a quick Google search showing Eddie Money's top hits:

This image is his "Can't Hold Back" album I bought back in 1987 from Sound Warehouse for $7.99, still in its original shrink wrap.

I have been listening to this and many other albums from my collection of vinyls a lot the past several months on a vintage turntable we have in our house. Both my husband and I kept stereo equipment, albums and audio we bought when we were young adults. Many of my albums are still at my mom's house! #todolist

Did you know you can easily find resale stores that carry albums in your city? We have many indoor flea markets located in strip malls where sellers pay about $100 to rent a numbered booth space to sell anything antiques and vintage items. Of course they agree to pay part of their sales as commission to the owners of the shop, usually 60% seller/40% shop.

I found this particular store cross-listed on Facebook Marketplace and yes, that's where we bought "The Eagles Greatest Hits" album as well as several others shown in the photographs.

We recently started a new tradition in our family of setting up our kids with their own old-school turntables and stereo equipment. Sshhh, it's a secret! The kids don't know about their upcoming surprises!

So far only only my youngest stepson has been "hooked up" (on his 31st birthday). He got his favorite band, "The Red Hot Chili Peppers," as his first new vinyl album. Barnes & Noble sell new albums by the way! ๐ŸŒถ๐Ÿ’ฟ๐ŸŽถ

We have been lucky to find many items on Craigslist, Ebay and Facebook BST Groups after doing a bit of time researching.

Back in the day, the only way I learned many of the correct lyrics to songs was by purchasing albums where the words were found printed on the LP vinyl inner sleeves (paper inserts the vinyls were placed in, also referred to as a dust sleeve, album liner and liner.) However, not all vinyl album liners contained lyrics on the liner notes.

I fondly remember how amusing it was hanging out with friends, listening & singing to loud music blasting on the radio when one of the gang would say the wrong lyrics and be corrected. A short spat would ensue that would eventually be resolved by someone pulling out the LP slip sleeve and pointing out the song lyrics on the sleeve liner's notes at a later time.

Yet so much has changed. Nowadays you can simply do a Google search to learn the name of the band/musician, the title, lyrics, and find a plethora of information almost instantaneously.

In honor of Eddie Money, who inspired my post today, please honor him by listening to one of my favorite songs by him by clicking below:

"No school like old school" -- Amen to that! @whack.science Thank you! ๐Ÿ’ฟ๐ŸŽธ๐ŸŽš

Well, I couldn't figure out why you didn't come up when I tried to pull up all the Market Friday posts... You didn't tag it #MarketFriday! :)

This was a great post and yes!!! I have some vinyl! Some of my own and some of my oldest brother as he was moving overseas. what a great collection he had! Way better than mine! I was sad to see Eddie Money leave this Earth! I really liked him and I was scanning through the albums, I realized that although the quality is better, I still do like the vinyl and I too have a turntable too. LOL

Oh, things were so much better made back then!

Thank you for the great post and welcome back again! We missed you and you are not allowed to leave again. Really sorry about Sasha and I hope that the sadness will wash over you and your love for her will take its place.

Always a pleasure to see you in the tag!

#MarketFriday loves you!

Oops! How embarassing! @dswigle I've been in a self-inflicted timeout for my faux pas of forgetting to use the Market Friday hashtag despite making reference to it within the context of my post! I'm telling you, it's rough coming back when you've been away for a spell! Thank you for making it into something laughable and forgivable. And I really appreciate the tip too! โ™ฅ๏ธ

Finishing up my punishment now:

I will use the correct hashtagsโœ

What a cool take on Market Friday, I do not have nay Vinyl these days I used to have a good collection but on a move maybe 20 years ago they all went missing along with the Turntable which was in a different box, and withh my traveling at the time I never got back into Vinyl,

Thank you! That's a darn shame your player and collection of albums vanished during your move. I know how many years it must have taken and all the memories behind each LP purchase. Thankfully all the songs were recorded forever and easily available to play on your computer, smartphone or smart speaker. Does Lulu still have any of hers by chance? @tattoodjay Hope you have a great Saturday!

Its something that happens now and again with moves, and I have moved so many times over the years, probably over 12 times where I had shipments, so only having boxes lost twice on moves is probably not that bad LOL
All my music now is on computers or play lists but there is something special about Vinyl.

Now Lulu didn't bring much with her when we met and she moved here with me

Nice to see you back on Steem! My son inherited my turntable and such years ago, and after storing all the albums that he didn't want for years, I finally gave them away to a friend who was getting into vinyl. Nice post!

Thank you, Melinda! Hope all has been going well with you. I sincerely missed everyone while I was on hiatus. Things got difficult the last months of my dog Sasha's life. It's taken me months since she's been gone to find balance. I'm not looking to replace her anytime soon either, though I know one day I'll have another doggy (or even two). Too soon now...

That's funny about your son. What would we do without our moms to hold onto our prized possessions? Thanks for the reminder-- I'd better start sorting through my things before my mom donates or discards them! Enjoy your Saturday!

I am sorry to hear about Sasha. It takes a long time to recover from the loss of someone you love. Be gentle with yourself.

Thank you for the comforting words of support, Melinda!๐Ÿ’•

I've been missing your posts, how lovely to see you here again! Great walk down memory lane, seeing vintage equipment and vinyl records. Love your taste in music too!

Regarding the misheard lyrics: it's always fun when someone gets the words totally wrong. One of my fav's is Jimi Hendrix , Purple Haze:

Purple haze, all in my brain
Lately things they don't seem the same
Actin' funny, but I don't know why
Excuse me while I kiss this guy the sky

:-)

Aww, thanks Keith! I missed everyone while I was gone. Looks like you're doing very well getting established on Steemit as I knew you would! Music has always brought me joy lifted my spirits. I figured why not pull out some of those vinyls and listen to some favorite songs to take a trip down memory lane?

Lol at the Purple Haze lyrics
the guy / the sky...nowadays it wouldn't be unheard of!
My friend used to sing the lyrics to Steve Miller Band's "Jungle Love"
as "Chug a lug" instead of "Jungle love,"
and it used to "drive me mad, makin' me crazy!"

Concrete equipment and a great collection :)

Thank you for taking time to leave a comment and I'm glad you approve! @grzekry

Great post, Nina. Seeing all the names and albums remind me of some my hubby has stored away. He needs a new turntable to play the vinyl.

Thank you! If you don't find one beforehand, you can surprise him at Christmas with a turntable and add a few of you two's favorite vinyls! ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’ฟ๐ŸŽถ
