Jack-O'-Lantern 🍄
Is the common English nickname for this mushroom - Omphalotus olearius 🍄
I stumbled upon it while looking for edible mushrooms with @simba who brought along his lil' kid 😁
Boy this 5 years old sure have a nak for 'shrooms and the edible ones nonetheless 🤓
This one I found on my own, which is a good thing 'cos this one's poisonous and you don't want a lil' kid touching it out of curiosity and later on puts his fingers in his mouth - this is a recipe for a hospital visit in the good case...
So it's a poisonous mushroom, also prominent because of its strong colors - golden-orange, orange-brown, and also because it sometimes prefers to grow in groups of several mushrooms grouped together.
It grows in olive groves, oak groves, and mixed groves during the winter season, sometimes on tree trunks and stumps in October-February.
Its' burning color should serve as a warning - Stay away, do not touch me, I'm poisonous!
The whole reproductive body and especially the pages of the ripe mushroom glow in the dark to a weak degree.
This is a phenomenon known as bioluminescence.
Toxic!!! Not to death, but to stomach poisoning. 🤮
Symptoms of the poisoning appear about half an hour or an hour after eating the mushrooms: nausea🤢, headache🤯, abdominal pain🤪, dizziness😵, muscle cramps😩, vomiting🤮, and diarrhea😱.
Enjoy!
