I Found a New Species of Dragonfly!
Hurray!
This is almost click bait.
To be more precise: I found a species of dragonfly I had never seen before, so it was new to me.
I like it a lot when that happens.
It was a western clubtail (Gomphus pulchellus), plasrombout in Dutch, and I managed to get some good photos:
Olympus Stylus 1s, 300mm, ISO100, f5.6, 1/640s
This dragonfly is found in Western Europe and Southwestern Europe, but not in Great Britain.
Na-na na-na naah-na.
It is about 50mm (2") in length and it lives mostly near puddles, slow-flowing waters, and sometimes fens.
Olympus Stylus 1s, 135mm, ISO100, f5.6, 1/800s
The books say these aren't rare, so I wonder where they have been hiding all this time.
Olympus Stylus 1s, 300mm, ISO100, f8, 1/500s
I also noticed they have funny lips, at least for a dragonfly:
Olympus Stylus 1s, 300mm, ISO100, f8, 1/500s
Another species for the list. Yay!
Thanks for watching!
What a beauty! Great photos!
Thank you!
I love his coloring and those blue eyes, so pretty. That was an amazing find for you, thank you for sharing your adventures with us.
You are most welcome.
I love finding new to me creatures too! Most recent was an antlion, I think, never seen one before so.... And it was having a bad day as the ants had unearthed it and were trying it home for dinner.
Beautiful dragonfly too!
Yes, fun, isn't it? I hope to find some more in my region. Finding new-to-me species abroad is too easy 8-).
I'm so glad the dragonflies are back! Your photos are always so incredible. I love how their bodies look like bamboo and the eyes on this one are pretty spectacular. This creature thoroughly inspires me...so glad you found it!
Not sure about lips, but her eyes ... too blue to be natural. I think she's wearing lens, what do u think?
You would almost think that, wouldn't you? What about this one:
This one has gorgeous green glasses, Honestly, I'm quite envious
Flagged for clickbait! But since the upvote button was closer, I pressed that, instead.
I love lazy people.
I prefer to call myself "selectively lazy". I can work super hard on certain stuff. But it has to catch my interest.
Being selective and efficient are traits of both smart and lazy people.
Many of the intelligent are lazy, many of the stupid think they are ennobled by working hard and talking a lot in meetings, but actually work hard because they can't figure out how to do things the easy way.
Cool - looks like I'm smart and lazy then.
Your re-using and improvising abilities seem to suggest that, but I'm hesitant to comment further 8-).
GoodJob finding out who this guy is. He is a smart looking dude.
Actually, my GF looked up what species it was, but I have plausible deniability of that. Oh wait; not anymore I don't.
I say it counts! I love new (to me) species. In fact, I just found a turtle that I have no idea what it is.
It didn't take your finger off, so it must be a good species.
I had a look, but I have no idea either. Consult your nearest turtle specialist 8-).
