A Mountain Fire!steemCreated with Sketch.

The fear of every farmer, lodge owner and town's resident. Here we have a spotter plane crossing in front of the sun!

Some guy decided to fire an emergency flare on New Years eve and the flare landed in some mountains behind a coastal town, setting the area alight. Since then the fire has spread over a huge area and it continues to burn now for the 8th day. It has caused much damage and surrounding roads are closed due to smoke and rock falls. The fire has now spread to the mountains at our town and I have taken some shots to show you.
Let's have a look!

A strange coloured hue from the fire covered the signal mountain!

A scary sight as the line of flames approach across the mountain face!

Still burning fiercely towards evening!

Early this morning and the mountain is still on fire!

And later this afternoon we saw a bank of cloud approaching the fire!

Everyone is praying for rain, as the mountain areas are inaccessible. It is becoming even more difficult to contain the fire and although the helicopters dump water, the steep mountain gradients simply drain the water away. There are many brave fire fighting teams that are working tirelessly to stem the fire and we hope that they are all safe. Here's to hope that it will rain soon!

What area are you in? I like to be very specific in my prayers. I know you are in the Western Cape somewhere, so I will pray for rain in the whole area in the meantime. God bless you all, especially the firefighters.

Somerset West, but the main trouble is towards the Betty's Bay area. Thank you so much for your care, and your prayers mean so much to us. Blessings to you.

That's scary. One careless act can put lives at risks and some people could lose their homes. Very sad to see

They have arrested the guy Sir Steve and I agree that it was a very dumb thing to do. People have lost their homes and I think one or two were killed. Great damages were caused!

This looks so frightening, have seen the fires on the news! You take care of yourself in your new surrounds @papilloncharity, hope the internet is set up soon:)

Thank you for the care Lady Lizelle, and now they are saying the installation will take place in 3 to 4 working days. What a wait, while I struggle on this little laptop on limited airtime. Blessings.

Stupidity of one person's moment of fun, turns into havoc for many small animals that will not survive fires out of control like this. Hope they impose a heavy fine for stupidity!

Firefighters unable to assist helicopter water bucket drops dousing the fires due to the bad terrain, thanks for sharing Stephen, hope the rains arrive soon.

Sadly no rain yet Lady Joan. I feel for the fire fighters as tomorrow it will be burning for 10 days! I see that they burnt a fire break under control in the Hottentot mountains yesterday. The problem is always the strong winds, as they can carry sparks very far. This damage is going to cost millions and the saddest of all was that 10 antelopes had to be put down!
