The window's blur, a streaking, hazy pane,
Divides the traveler from the distant green,
Where palm trees rise against the cloudy stain
Of skies long past, a half-remembered scene.
I watch the iron track slip swiftly by,
A dark ribbon leading far away,
Beneath the lines of wire against the sky,
As memories fade with the close of day.

The rust-kissed railing, briefly caught in sight,
A barrier between the journey's pace
And the dense jungle, bathed in somber light,
A childhood dream of some forgotten place.
The lush, unending emerald, deep and vast,
Speaks of the tropics, humid, rich, and slow,
A quiet world that moves too quickly past,
A fleeting glimpse of seeds I didn't sow.

The rhythmic clatter of the steel on steel,
A steady pulse that marked the miles we ran,
A comfort that a weary heart could feel,
Before the current chapter had began.
I see the ghost of someone young and small,
Pressed to the glass, with wide, expectant eyes,
Believing he could somehow hold it all—
The shifting land, the clouds, the endless skies.

Though time has turned the calendar's worn page,
And tracks diverge where paths once intertwined,
This simple frame contains a former age,
A silent promise that I left behind.
A passing beauty, blurred but held so true,
The journey's heart, its melancholy grace;
It calls me back to moments old and new,
And the swift wind of motion on my face.
