The stone steps under your feet begin to soften, losing their solid grit until they feel like sinking teeth into wet clay. You try to retreat, but the meticulously manicured maple tree—once a symbol of zen—twitches with a sickening, rhythmic pulse. Its vibrant green leaves aren't rustling in the wind; they are whispering in a thousand overlapping voices, debating which part of you to claim first as the path ahead stretches into an infinite, grey loop.

As you turn toward the temple for sanctuary, the weathered wood of the pagoda groans and begins to bleed a thick, black resin. The intricate carvings on the rafters shift into elongated, weeping eyes that track your every move. The shadows beneath the eaves detach themselves, pooling on the pavement like ink, rising up to form featureless figures that stand perfectly still, blocking your only exit into the courtyard.

The air grows heavy with the scent of damp earth and ancient rot. You realize the "bushes" lining the path are actually mounds of tangled, green hair, hiding the pale, gasping faces of those who arrived before you. The silence is suddenly shattered by the sound of a heavy wooden door slamming shut behind you, though there are no doors left—only the suffocating embrace of a garden that has decided you are the final piece of its landscape.
