The winding path, a ribbon gray and worn,
Betwixt the green where shadows sleep till morn.
I see the tall palms reaching for the light,
Familiar sentinels, watching day and night.
The jungle's heart beats slow in humid air,
A silent promise of the life held there,
And every leaf, a memory I recall,
Of childhood's freedom, standing proud and tall.

Those banana fronds, a vibrant, glossy shield,
The rich, dark earth, the scents the gardens yield.
I feel the stillness, hear the distant hum,
A place where worries rarely dared to come.
The low stone wall, moss-kissed and gently broken,
A quiet language time itself has spoken.
It holds the echoes of small feet that ran,
Following the sun, since the day began.

Now miles divide me from this peaceful view,
My heart aches fiercely for the sky so blue,
Framed by the canopy, a patchwork bright.
I long to walk this road in fading light,
To breathe the dampness, cool beneath the trees,
And let my spirit find its native ease.
This simple road, though far, still draws me near,
A powerful current washing out all fear.

Oh, to return and stand just where you are,
To leave behind the city's ceaseless jar.
This photograph is more than light and shade,
It is the place where my true self was made.
Until that day, I hold it close within,
And let the longing for the road home begin,
A sweet ache of return, a cherished dream,
Beside that boundary wall, beside that stream.
