Where Eagles Fly : Where The Grand Canyon Begins ~ Above Glen Canyon on the Colorado River
In this image I lensed while following and exploring the Colorado River, Lake Powell and Page Arizona sit beside the Colorado River where it enters Glen Canyon and begins it's dramatic descent into Marble Canyon and eventually the Grand Canyon. This deep canyon is the beginning of the deepening cut the river has made over eons, slicing into the rock to become the mighty Grand Canyon.
This is Glen Canyon and it is the location of the beginning of the Grand Canyon National Park.To the top and left is Lake Powell and the Glen Canyon Recreation Area and to the right of the river and lake is Rainbow Plateau and the Wild Horse Mesa on the First Nations Dine (Navajo) Reservation.
In the distance on the right side of the horizon lies Tower Butte over Horseshoe Bend. The image above is looking to the east from directly above Pariah Canyon and the image below is looking to the west from the same position. Here, Marble Canyon carves its way across the House Rock Valley, becoming the Grand Canyon.

About The Project
Where Eagles Fly - The American Wilderness Expedition is my personal mission to introduce people to these amazing locations that surround us. I am piloting a bush plane while exploring and filming throughout the remote back-country areas of North America to raise awareness of the 47% of the USA and 90% of Canada that remain unpopulated wilderness.

Nice Photography and post @skypilot
it's a cool friend, but a little spooky if imagined
Spooky? How so?
It is amazing how different and breathtaking looks our Earth from above! Thank you, @skypilot!
I agree Daniela! That is why I explore as I do... the view up here is AWESOME! I have been blessed to have this privilege and be able to do this. Hopefully these views will compel folks to love nature as I do and then desire to protect it from destruction!
Yiiiiha!
This is soo amazing cant even get my words togehter...
Being able to see everything from above and exactly deciding when to go wherever you want :)
How is landing? Can you easily land somewhere or does it need a runway??
LOL.... That is the truth sir... it is an amazing sense of freedom to not follow roads! And yes, I can land anywhere there is a flat spot long enough for me to land and take off on. I fly a tail-dragger in particular because they are safer than a nose wheeled aircraft when landing in primitive off-runway conditions.
Was searching for both types - didnt really get the difference :))
But incredible freedom to land wherever you want and combined with the freedom of the "uncontrolled airspace" you said, it must be awesome.... Does it take long Time to get this Pilot License?
And how much is it about the buy a good working standard aircraft?
Lot of questions, as you see im on fire :))
I am always fascinated by these grandiose landscapes of the canyons in the USA because in my country Moroccothere is a similar geological structures. These are the canyons of Dades in the Draa Valley in the south.
Very cool... love to see some pictures so please post them!! I too am fascinated by these large scale scenes!
Hi some pics of thé canyons if Dades and thanks
That must have been awesome to soar above the Grand Canyon! It is such a beautiful area and you have a perfect vantage point to take pictures. Seeing where the Canyon starts is cool too. After all, there has to be a start somewhere. And although not as deep as some parts in the middle, it's important... and beautiful. :)
Thanks and yes I agree.... I cannot begin to say how amazing it is to see these places from above. Let us just say it is a life-altering experience that profoundly affects one when there in person.
