The Blue Angels are one of the most renowned flight demonstration teams in the world, captivating audiences with their precision aerobatics and breathtaking maneuvers. Formed in 1946 by the U.S. Navy, they have performed for millions of spectators, showcasing the skill and discipline of naval aviators.
History and Origins
The Blue Angels were established after World War II as a way to maintain public interest in naval aviation and demonstrate the Navy's air superiority. Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, then Chief of Naval Operations, ordered the creation of a flight exhibition team, leading to the official formation of the squadron on April 24, 1946. The first show was performed on June 15, 1946, at Craig Field in Jacksonville, Florida.
The team initially flew Grumman F6F Hellcats, then transitioned to F8F Bearcats and later the F9F Panthers, making them the first U.S. Navy flight team to fly jet aircraft. Over the years, they have continued to update their aircraft, ensuring they stay at the cutting edge of aviation performance.

Today, the team flies the F/A-18 Super Hornet, a powerful and highly maneuverable aircraft that allows them to perform their signature stunts with precision. They also operate the C-130J Super Hercules, known as "Fat Albert," which supports the team by transporting personnel and equipment.
