Scanning Electron Microscope pictures

in #photography7 years ago

Hi guys!

During my studies, I had to observe different materials on a big machine called SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope), which looks like this :
This is not the one I used, picture courtesy NASA
And considering that some of them were quite interesting/beautiful depending on one's opinion, I thought I could share them with you. These pictures are part of a long report I had to do (similar to a Master's Thesis) and I'll maybe explain the context later in other posts if I find the time.

This is the surface of a ceramic. Yellow surface is pure gold, applied by sputtering
After having placed this material in a furnace for half a day, we can observe this surface, which is, I think, one of the best pictures of my Thesis :

The little "stars" are aggregated gold particles" I like to think that this represents a beach seen from above, with lights being house or illuminations.

This one is better that the previous one for observations, but esthetically speaking, I'll let you decide

I'm not going to put all my pictures in one post and I will probably make other posts in the near future, I have various pictures in different styles and I'll try to group them by resemblance.

Thanks for the upvotes and follow me if you want more homemade scientific pictures :)
