I thought I would occasionally share some views of the city I live in. Every city has its own character and I have lived in a few different ones in Australia. Tampere is the only city I have lived in in Finland and it became home quickly. I sometimes think it strange that I know a city, that is on the opposite side of the world from where I was born, so well.

Tampere was an industrial city (known as the Manchester of Finland) turned tech hub. It is the home of Nokia phones (yes they still exist kinda :) ) and networks and boasts plenty of tech startups. Finland in general is a pretty tech orientated place due to the long history of manufacturing (which still goes on) and educational institutions which provide a seemingly endless supply of engineers.

The pictures today are from the rapids that run through the city between two large lakes. The drop between the lakes allows for electricity production and there are hydro plants at both ends. The red brick buildings are synonymous with old Tampere and the building in the background is the old Finlayson factory (textiles).

When the sun shines, the redbrick contrasts with the blue sky nicely.
