This bronze monument was erected in the Summer Garden in 1855. The author of the project is the famous sculptor Peter Clodt. You can look at this monument for a long time: its pedestal is decorated with numerous figures of the heroes of Krylov's fables. Most of the animal models lived in the workshop of the sculptor while working on the monument. The only exceptions were the lion, the goat and the elephant. Some animals lived in cages, others moved freely around the room. Probably, the sculptor’s workshop resembled a zoo. According to the memoirs of contemporaries, most animals lived in harmony, only the wolf and the bear caused problems. Krylov not only wrote his own fables, but also translated the fables of Aesop. Perhaps you will learn some of the stories of fables depicted on the pedestal.

Near this monument you can always see groups of tourists moving slowly around it. From time to time someone begins to recite stanzas of fables familiar to all from childhood.
