Saving Leica Hektor, 135 mm, f/4.5, disassembly and common sense tips and tricks

in #photography3 years ago (edited)

I've recently bought the cheapest Leica lens on planet Earth.

It's 63 years old Hektor, named after the dog owned by lens engineer

The price was 48 $

And the problem was haze

And some scratches made by previous owner who was an idiot.

Instead of disassembling the optics from the tube, moron used some stick and cloth over it to clean it.

And it got some scratches.

Opalescent haze was created by pouring alcohol that penetrated the threads and got mixed with aperture grease

German engineering, why putting 5 leaves to make a circle, let's put 15!

The construction is mega simple, 4 lenses, 3 groups, it doesn't get any simpler than that

To summarize, I have a Leica lens that cost me 48 $, tax included, and 10 minutes of time to clean it.

Me Like It!
