Stop kidding yourself!!

Its not your gear its how you use it!

I have heard this time and time again.

You see a lot of people see a photo or video that someone else has done, you then rush out to buy the same gear but what you produce is no where near as good as theirs.

Why?

Because your gear doesn’t make your content… You do!

When I had no expensive gear, I used to see this and think its easy for you to say as you have the expensive gear!

Well I now fully believe it and heres why.

My wife is a blogger and as such gets invited to events and days out in return for a review.

At the beginning of this year we were invited to a local adventure park.

We did this in our usual way, she took some photos and I shot a small video on my GoPro (here is that video).

They were that impressed by the video I produced they wanted to hire me to work with them for the year producing videos for them.

Long story short I said if you wanted me to work with you I need a better camera and so I ended up getting the camera and lens I wanted off the back of a £350 GoPro.

So thats proof enough you don’t need the expensive gear.

Instead invest the time working on your skills, better yourself and your story telling skills then it won’t matter what gear you have.

Just get out there and capture life around you :)

Love the inspirational message! :) Just take your iphone and start clicking away! :)

Thank you :) Exactly, click away with whatever you have at your disposal!

This is some great advice. There's no replacement for natural skill and talent. I think if you're passionate about what you do, it shines through in what you produce, regardless of the price amd quality of your equipment xx

Thank you.... No I completely agree, unfortunately I still see so many people complaining there content just isnt that goood... If its not good keep practicing and dont be afraid to make mistakes! xx

I'm comfortable to admit that i'm really not as interesting as 90% as the population! It's hard to be interesting. I wish I could leave work to become a much more interesting person.... Like a world traveler or a self made astronaut.

Haha I would love to be a world traveller, sadly my kids stop me from being that!! I can promise you 1 thing, my daily life is as dull as they come, thats the joys of photos, you can make it look like its something it isnt!

Definitely true. Still want a Mavic though:)

Haha I want a Phantom 4 now!

One of the most frustrating things to hear when I tried to make it as a wedding photographer was "Nice camera, I bet it takes good pictures."

Cameras don't take pictures, photographers do.

Oh yes, thats another cracker.... That one is slightly better than can't you just photoshop me and the pic to make it look better and me slimmer... Ummm ok! What exactly does the term Photoshop mean!!!!

Fully agree with you there, unfortunately everyone nowadays think they are a photographer... I enjoy taking photos but I wouldnt call myself a photographer, think that term is thrown around way too losely now.

Loads pic into Photoshop - Waits - DONE

Very true, a lot of people are able to take a decent picture but can't deliver consistently. It's hard haha.

Great video by the way, will be awesome to show your kids when they're older.

Haha yes, exactly that!

I think with Instagram nowadays, there are so many people who are on it that go to bed as John Smith then wake up with an idea and suddenly they change their name to John Smith Photography or John Smith Photographer!!

Thank you, they sit and watch them now, they think because they watch themselves on screen they are famous :)

Instead invest the time working on your skills, better yourself and your story telling skills then it won’t matter what gear you have.

Fantastic advice. Great post!

Followed :)
