The use of marigolds is not limited to decoration or making garlands only.
Its flowers are large and round, mostly yellow and orange. The plants are small and bushy, and the flowers are small but numerous. Marigolds can be grown any time of year, but September and October are considered the best time. They can be grown in any normal soil, but fertile soil with good drainage is best. The plant needs at least 5-6 hours of direct sunlight. If kept in shade, the plant will produce leaves but no flowers. Water only when the top surface of the soil is dry. Overwatering can cause root rot. When the plant reaches 5-6 inches tall, cut off the top stem. This makes the plant denser and produces more flowers. Remove any withered flowers immediately, helping the plant focus its energy on producing new flowers. The scent of marigolds repels many harmful insects, so they are often grown as companion plants with vegetables.
