Free Verse Poem: Math Hat

I had a teacher in school told me
I was one of those people
Who couldn’t do math.
When you’re a little person
You’re taught to listen to
And believe big people,
So I did.
And he was right.
All through my secondary schooling
I couldn’t do math properly.
When I got to college
I had learned that adults
Weren’t always right,
And I could do math.
I was acceptably good at math.
Now on my way to be a teacher
I need to be a teacher
Who nobody will says in their mind:
“You’re just one of those people who can’t teach kids.”
