sovereignty will never be absolute
for we are mortal, you and I.
witness the flesh shrivel and
decay on your skeleton,
know the lines of your skull,
that push through stale skin,
and
your teeth sitting in shrunken lips –
a mercenary grin
of sombre acceptance.
