Poem #24 about The Beauty of Our Generation: "Millennial Majesty," and the final poem in my upcoming book

Millennial Majesty

Come artists and teachers and builders, come all,
There’s no better time to answer this call.
Give love to your neighbor, your enemy too.
Don’t take this lightly; we’re counting on you.

We have searched and we’ve cried, we’ve failed but we tried,
We didn’t lose hope when our fantasies died.
We accepted each other; boo, you do you.
When we open our hearts, other hearts open too.
We picked up the values that were left on the ground
Picked ourselves up too. We won’t ever stay down.
Best hearts of my generation are redeeming ourselves
And actualizing new meanings of wealth.
We grow our food to be pickled and canned.
We give love to the plants and thanks to the land.
Our money’s our power and we purchase with care.
Support local farmers and share share share share.
Learning to cook vegan and give crystal massages,
Stirring herbal remedies and selling art from garages.
Holding our own neighborhoods up in the light.
Taking responsibility for our own city’s plight.
Stopping a fight with only a hug.
Counting the spots on a ladybug.
Telling Hollywood pervs to go take a hike
While we make better movies with a go-pro and mic.

Don’t worry if you’re jobless or homeless or fat.
What’s happening now’s more important than that.
Loving yourself and other people ain’t easy.
And you might even think that it sounds kind of cheesy –
But this is the truth as I understand it,
Our souls wrote this story, together we planned it.
This is for humans of all times and places.
They’re watching us now with proud smiles on their faces.

It’s true that we may still have our addictions
But tell you the truth, they led us out of our fictions.
Compulsion takes over, but here’s why we let it:
Society’s fucked-up and we can’t forget it.
But with a garden, a purpose, no bills, and a house,
Trust me, we wouldn’t be depressed on the couch.
Sure, there’d still be rebels, you’ll find me with them,
But when we stop the bombs the terrorists win.
We still have our issues, I’m not saying we don’t:
People need me to say sorry but I probably won’t.
But our triggers remind us to look at ourselves
And remember that ego is only a shell.
Whatever it’s done, it felt it had to do.
Forgive it, my friend, for it isn’t You.
You are a Being – the Fifth Element,
Sent from the stars to save this planet.
Your smile is worth millions, your body is priceless -
Call that fact up when you’re facing a crisis.
Write down your dreams and dream of your goals,
Don’t be afraid to give tasks to your soul.
Keep looking for beauty and you will keep seeing it.
Focus always on love and you will keep being it.
Believe it or not, the narcissist is right,
This life’s about you and your role in the fight.
And if you need love, I hold you close to my chest
And if you need sleep then I pray you can rest.
But after you’ve claimed the things that you need
Please remember that you are here now to lead.
Don’t ask me what matters for you know the truth,
Be it humor or freedom, what matters to you?
Perhaps you’re inspired to jot down a sonnet,
Whatever it is, go ‘head and get on it.
Keep up what you’re doing, it’s working, and how!
The membrane’s been broken and love’s winning now!

Once the fight’s over and we’ve finished the race,
I invite you all for a toke at my place.
Wear your craziest outfit, I mean, why the fuck not?
Let’s eat tons of food and then dance a lot.
Cuz if you read this book and you didn’t get paid,
A friend of this poet you’ve officially made.
I want you to know I appreciate you
And no matter what, to thine own self be true.
May the Universe guide us and may angels stay close
And may I have a desk and a window by the coast.
