I wrote a lot of poetry back during my undergrad days, but once I found that I enjoyed doing fiction more, I never picked it back up (despite filling a huge notebook with well-transcribed versions along with accompanying images). Since Steemit seems to have a thriving (and growing) poetry community, I thought I'd add a little fuel to that particular fire. I hope you enjoy :)

A bullet’s death echo at twilight,
you second-guessed the noose
and chose gunpowder to chest,
ingesting buckshot and fire
in lungs tired of tasting time.

A die-a-logue
of ’now i slay me down to sleep’
on pillows of petals
grown up from the deep
drinking down bloodrain,
photosynthesize
shotgunned skin
weathered like pelts hung to salt.

Now you sing graveyard blues
in 21 Sun salutes
Taps-dancing on tombs.
Relax...today
begins the first day
of the rest of your afterlife.
