I Never Knew

I never knew helplessness
untill they gave me the sword
and asked me to strike it through.

I never knew real pain
untill her eyes filled with tears
but not a regret that it was me doing it.

I never knew the meaning of words
untill my head is filled with feelings
of things i could have said.

I never knew the meaning of life
is to give and give and never expect
untill she gave her life for me to live.
