Behind the Door

While walking near the roadway's end in sunny Senegal
a man espied a wooden door tucked neatly in a wall.

A mystery must lay behind this massive wooden door
and he began to wonder what surprise might lay in store.

Perhaps a chest of jewels, coins, or trinkets hid behind,
where he could pocket treasure if the stars were all aligned.

Or maybe beauty's visage wearing lavender perfume
or tapestries of green and blue still stretched upon a loom.

A vintage clock? A pot of stock well seasoned with an herb?
A storybook of tales that weave a villain and a verb?

His curiosity, it caused his heart to thump and throb.
So gingerly he touched the wood and gently turned the knob.

What greeted eyes now opened wide when first he cracked the door?
IKEA's blasted Skarsta desk in pieces on the floor.

You made me smile :) and I always enjoy your poetic language! Sounds so easy but I know a hard work and a great talent are behind :)

Oh, thank you my friend! (glad I could make you smile 😃)

Haha... ticklish, anti-climactic twist. I enjoyed the build-up, @Geke, and the let-down. 🤪

Thanks - the ending pertains to an earlier post by @onceuponatime in which he was putting together and IKEA Skarsta desk. lol

Lol. Even better—you’re on your own assembling it, I’m hopeless at such things! 😜
