A Ticking Clock
In a glass bowl
Sunlit
And alone
Two wooden chairs
On the patio
Vacant
All winter long
Clouds pass
Unseen
Above me
The wind
Soundlessly
Bends the trees
Outside me
I am insulated
Contained
As an oyster
While trees
Sway slowly
Over me
Snow
Almost
Imperceptibly
dances
But nothing
Touches me
Except
A ticking clock
That says
You’re gone.
This poem did bring the thought of a still life for me, and something particularly grabbed at my emotion from these lines:
The wind
Soundlessly
Bends the trees
Outside me
... as if everything inside has paused while the world moves on..
Excellent :)
thank you, Tina - you did grasp the essence of it
The four lines in your first verse is quite good, it appealed to the sense of touch, amazing poetry
it was intended to be moments out of time - like a still life painting - not sure if people picked up on that or just saw a disconnect. A lot of interpretation problems arise from Symbolist approach and the deliberate leaving out of connections :)
Well the bigger picture is there sir, however it was the senserory organ in me that caught that first feeling
thanks, Jose :)
Dear @johnjgeddes it’s good to see a familiar face from Twitter & fellow practitioner of micro poetry!
Here’s a very short poem of mine, featured on NPR, that you might enjoy:
Bodies are like poems.
A fraction of their power
resides in their skin.
The rest belongs
to the spirit
that swims through them.

Hi Yahia, It's good to meet with you on here too - that's an impressive review on the PBS site. No one on here seems aware of micro poetry, or at least the term. And you're right, I love your poem :) I'm following you now. Good to connect
Micropoetry is a genre of poetic verse which is characterized by its extreme brevity.
In other words, a micropoem is a short poem. Micropoetry is a collective
term for a variety of different forms of short poetry.
As a poetic artform, it doesn't
really have any rules.
thanks Jerry - a succinct description of the genre
I googled it 😜
wow.. a nice clock
thanks :)
