Magicians
Like a steel sheet
In sunlight
You contort
Time and space
Whenever I’m around you
Brighten like a raindrop
Then sudden
Go dark again
Merge with the background
Then sudden
Stand out again.
Draw magic from colors
Scent from flowers
Sage from rain
And when the magic’s
Exhausted,
Begin over again.
You sap my strength
To do what you do,
And I, in turn, draw magic from you.
These magicians, they hold our hearts in their hands, don't they? They could destroy as well as sap. Yet they give as well as take. They give - what is it? that undefinable, ineffable something? Oh yeah! Magic. As you so perfectly said. I don't know, JG. I don't know if I shrink or expand when I read you; shrink by comparison of ability; expand by beauty of soul. You are that good. You are - a Poet. (And, a writer of fiction, too, I see). Thanks
