Threadbare Lover
Paint you in words ,
But you know me—
Your impoverished lover
With a Scrabble bag
Of letters.
It’s my infirmity
To be ethereal
Not know your touch,
But sense your soul.
Each night an elemental—
Rain, thunder stone
And need I mention?
Our love.
I'd build
A monument
To outlast the ages
But that’s not the way
To create space.
I place you in my art
To keep you safe.
And after waves
Have worn smooth
The rocks of ages,
Your soul, untouched
Unyielding
To persuasion…
Will still remain
Unbendable, adamant—
Alone,
The perfect partner
For a man of stone.
