City I Was Born
Meeting the trees
With my eyes
I drew loose a web
From a pine cone
And tarried there
Until the Sun rained in
Through a million
Razor-cut needle slits
I then clenched
Nine months of coal
Within my fist
And freed the ribbon
Weaned between the threads
Of cold silver
And uncovered
The Moon's nakedness
As your heedless laugh
Graced the hearts of men
Hidden in shadow
Along side streets forbid
In the city I was born
