Dad
you were the man
you had a plan
you were the ultimate provider

All I ever wanted
was to be
like you

I know these words
are too sentimental
for poetry

But they're the words
that say
all about me

You never understood me
but at least in the end
when the day was one

I wish I could've been
a better son
