When Women Moan, They Cry.
This is the time of the day when
women with overgrown pubic hairs
tell men that beards are like fire falling from the cheeks.
- If you can grow a dozen i'll let you touch my breasts.
Imagine! What Nonsense is she saying?
In Lagos there are taxis that run from expressways to bedrooms,
and the night is filled with wives pressing their ears to the wall
waiting to hear the moans of another lady on their foolish husbands.
When women moan, they cry.
cos love, sex and guilt are like 3 demons
rubbing their genitals on the wall of a church.
Tonight, i'll visit the love of my life
under a shade that hide our sins...,
in that place where horny and heartbeats walk hand in hand like the zippers of a skirt.
She'll say she wants me to touch her here, to touch her there
She'll beg me not to stop, she'll moan
And then she'll run
cos in this place...,
Feeling are like pillows suffocating the throat of a grandma,
And Sex is a guilt painted on our faces till our eyes become an abomination.
In this place,
When women moan, they cry.
Was inspired to write this poem after reading @mimy introductory post of the drams's club stage play in the owerri meetup.
She talked about feminism and how women are easily guilt shamed for wanting to have sex as much as men do, or for just been wild.
Most ladies in Nigeria hang on to their virginity not because they really want to but because of the guilt our misogynist society would pour on them. Somehow they believe their value as a woman is tied to their virginity or the lack of it.
This is what this poems talks about.
The first two verses showed that women do not have a right to desire the kind of man they want to have sex with, if you do then you'll be shamed. You can see this from that line...,
-women with overgrown pubic hair
And
- If you can grow a dozen i'll let you touch my breasts.
Imagine! What Nonsense is she saying?
The third verse talked about how women have to deal with cheating husbands and why its okay for a man to cheat and a women should just hush and take it like nothing is happening. They should be friends with their husbands' lovers even. That's the extent of patriarchy in the Nigeria society.
In Lagos there are taxis that run from expressways to bedrooms,
and the night is filled with wives pressing their ears to the wall
waiting to hear the moans of another lady on their foolish husbands.
As a woman desires of sex will feel you with guilt, suffice to say that many women have been able to break away from that guilt but there is still no doubt that a lady having sex with several men is seen as a whore like a guy having sex with several ladies is praised and respected.
And the last verse talks about a lady in love, even when she knows she wants to have sex, and she knows the guys is worth it, she still needs to fight that guilt and the fear of the guy telling all his friends how much of a whore she is, something most men don't need to worry about.
