One True Friend (Original Poetry)
This first piece is about the human longing for belonging and the fire it burns inside us. I hope you find your one, true, friend (:
One True Friend
Why is it that we feel so much longing
For someone that gives us this sense of belonging,
In the light of the day and the dark of the night,
For someone that will always by our side fight?
One who we can confide in,
And at their sight feel comfort within;
Someone who we can truly trust
And with our troubles can entrust;
Someone that's always there,
And for us will always care.
Someone that understands what we say,
And keeps us company through night and day;
Someone that's always around,
And on our lives their effect is truly profound;
Such people are truly a gem,
One we'll be so lucky to have ever found.
One where we feel we truly belong,
Where the short nights become so long;
For every moment in their presence,
Is one to our hearts so warm and pleasant.
It seems like a strong human desire,
For inside of us so burns a fire;
Needing someone to come and extinguish,
And it makes us so blind that we can't distinguish
The ones who are wicked, sinister and bad,
Feeding on the scars we once had.
From the ones who to them we truly matter,
The ones who know we got so much on our platter;
And they would love nothing more,
Than hugging us and be there to assure
That all this is a matter of time,
And much like this beautiful rhyme,
It shall all come to an end;
So may you all find that one, true, friend.
