Prelude to a Broken Heart

Given the chance
I should turn and run

Rather I linger
Stupefied

Something in your eyes
Something in my soul

Interminable struggle

Heed the counsel of reason or
Trust the misunderstood
Feelings that offer no mercy
To my fledgling heart….

The scarcity of your endearment
Resounds in disparaging tones

Stand you worthy of my lament?
