A Night's Phase
Like a soldier charged up for battle
The pre, mid and post norcturnal battle
The cross night study walker
Buckles down for an sleepless struggle.
Girded with a uniform of cotton, fur, maybe wool
Armed with several inked pages and a sword
With orders from an absent commander
And a target typical to each study soldier.
I find my place in this battle field with others
Different commands, separate targets
Equivalent goals, similar purpose
No intent of straying off course.
How long now can I stay on track?
How long now with this arrival of her?
This cross night writer from the Jury
From the region where tiny flying vampires evade.
First we made a truce
A truce with this lady in black
'Who walkst past thou at a godly hour
But captured thine cross jacket form solely. '
Even though we had separate commanders
Even though diverse our targets were
We by instincts curse resought to dialogue
An engrossing confine indefinite dialogue.
Her little dreamy eyes heavy with bombshell slumber
Stubbornly resisting nature's hand
Holding on to each new line of talk
As caffeine relief to remain awake.
Allies and foes react with various actions
Turning, snubbing, eyes rolling, talking, acting
Their effect was as suspence in a play
A brief moment of silence and then the show goes on.
We signed treaty for calm and focus
I and the previous lady in black
A treaty two sixty minutes long, too long!
Then dialogue returned, confine, indefinte, engrossing.
I must keep awake
I must not loose in this 'insomniac' struggle
Shall I please read her a sonnet?
Shall I balance this struggle between actuality and reality?
Rest a little cross night writer
The cock will crow in a moment
Rest a little in satisfactory defeat
I'll wake you up when the alarm beeps.
I wake her up before the alarm goes
With dreamy eyes she starts out of the battle field
With no regrets, just a smile and thoughts of rest
We walk to her nitche, what a nitche!
Daylight come, study writer still unaware
Until the noon strolled by, and lady in black arose
She recalls she has a command and a target
She resumes battle, now without a battle field.
Without the distracting soldier she won't go off track
