Being against both the left and right doesn't mean I'm in the mushy middle, or that I pretend to be above the fray.

Left and right is a false dichotomy. Both believe in government control of your life for your own damn good.

There's an orthogonal world view that isn't so sanguine about trying to control people's thoughts and personal choices, that sees that activity as not only fraught with danger, but having a fundamental internal conflict: if people are not good enough at making choices for themselves, then how can we think any of them--including ourselves--can be better at making choices for others?

And if there is such an elite set of people, how can we believe that these same deeply flawed non-elites could have the capacity to identify and choose them?

As you struggle with choices in your own life, yet you believe you are competent to choose those who would control us, and you are confident that your preferred controls are a wiser course of action than you and other normal people can regularly manage in your own life.

Can you not see how perverse this belief is?
