Voting

With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility

vote-2.jpg

Back in 2004 Thomas Sowell said, "If you can't spare the time from watching sit-coms to go check out a few facts one evening at your local library, with the help of your local librarian, then don't pretend that you are a responsible voter, or even a responsible parent. There is no excuse for ignorance -- or for having heard only one side, which is worse. If there was ever a time to stop and think, this is it. Slogans and images are no substitute for knowing what you are talking about -- and knowing what you are doing when you enter the voting booth on election day."

Now that may seem a tad harsh, but I agree with him wholeheartedly. If you have not been keeping up and following the issues....if you have only consistently listened to one side of the argument your entire life never bothering to entertain a differing point of view....if you are an obedient ideologue who willingly accepts marching orders from the powers that be without an inkling of independent thought, then please do your fellow Americans a favor and stay home on election day.

Why in the world should your uninformed ignorant vote cancel out my studious well informed vote? Hmmmm? Why? Can you answer that for me please? Oh, is it because you feel a certain way? I have a novel idea ... why don't you study the issues and know a certain way instead. All too often people vote with their feelings as opposed to their knowledge. Facts do not care about your feelings, okay? You may feel that zombies deserve mercy, but guess what ... not only do zombies not exist, but if they did exist then they are trying to eat you!

My point is, you may wish to come across to your peers as involved, aware, and compassionate; however, chances are you are voting for the wrong team. You know, the team that appeals to your decent sensibilities in an effort to manipulate you emotionally when the truth is that THEY are the ones who are wolves dressed in sheep's clothing. Like Ra's Al Ghul said in Batman Begins, "Criminals thrive on the indulgence of society's understanding." No truer words have been spoken in a modern movie. Think about it.
