Isn't this a bit... outdated? The US is now the leading oil producer in the world thanks to fracking and our shale reserves.

As our shale mining gets more efficient it continues to lower the point at which our oil is economically viable and it means outside sources like OPEC can't risk raising the prices too high. Since 2011 the US has been exporting more oil than it is importing.
