CNN Threats to DOX creator of funny gif
When I heard about this story this morning at first I thought it was fake news because so much of it is today. After doing my homework it looks like CNN not only threatened to out the person who created the gif and backed down because the person agreed not to do it again. I sure hope the creator makes hundreds of these now and tells CNN ok now what you going to do. Mark Dice shares his humorous take on how nutty things are getting over there at CNN and shares some of the new ones being created.
maybe folks should start doxxing the CNN producers...sure would be a shame if folks started swatting them, too
@stevescoins agreed and what these executives over at CNN don't understand is humor is protected even it it makes them look bad, which it does. :)
everything they do makes them look bad ;>
If it were just the CNN gif this guy would be making the talk show rounds as a hero. He's hiding from a history of bigoted trolling which this video doesn't even mention. By all accounts he brokered this deal when CNN contacted him for comment and verification, something that journalists should do.
I don't have sympathy for this guy, anonymity can be important to protect sources or victims of violence, but in this case we just have an admitted troll. I have no doubt he'll be back at it under a new account, CNN knows that too, it's just a stalemate so everyone involved can save face a bit.
It's bigger than just this one guy now because people all over the country and world see how twisted and politically driven this network is among others that they can't find the news to save their collective butts. And now instead of worrying about one guy making gif's there is a horde. It's glorious to watch them step in their own messes.
I don't care about the gifs and memes. I'm actually defending CNN on this one, but like any good photoshop battle, a lot of the images being made (as shown at the end of the video) are admittedly pretty damn funny.
What has become the actual news basis of this story is how it's not the first instance of an official communication from the POTUS distributing material from a racist online source, and now the same people crying "fake news" (Video above, Trump Jr.) are developing a fake narrative about CNN harassing a 15 year old kid.
I fail to see how the President retweeting a gif has anything to do with race or racism that the creator may or may not have. That is another story and will never be proven one way or another because in humor anyone nowadays can claim someone is racist no matter the topic at hand. The real story here is about CNN tanking in viewers and trying to intimidate a reddit user to sit down and shut up. They failed to accomplish any of those things and has thus furthered gifs they don't like. You can't have it both ways, CNN creates fake narratives and turns them into 24/7 stories (thus creating and becoming part of the very coverage reported). This is highly unethical and below basic journalists practices. CNN has also deleted tweets today acknowledging this intimidation and twitter removes trending hashtags in defense of them again keep stepping into it.
I'm assuming you got that from the POTUS or a "real" news source. What are the stats you're basing it on? According to Nielson, CNN just had it's best second quarter in history and is at a 5 year ratings high overall.
I agree with you on how the 24/7 news cycle and ratings whoring overall harms journalism. But I unfortunately see no redeeming journalistic integrity coming from the "other side." I just see videos like the one linked to where alternative media reads a mainstream new article, sows a false narrative that this is a kid at home in mom's basement, and has clearly conducted no investigation of his own. It's an opinion piece, period.
The gif creator is either racist, or just pretends to be racist in order to piss people off... trolling. Either way, he chose his online handle appropriately, full well knowing he's an asshole. Maybe you feel it's overly PC to look at it's source, but the President has deemed his Twitter feed to be an official communication channel of the office of the presidency, and to post artwork created by an anonymous source who has advocated the elimination of all Muslims seems to be an irresponsible use. Do I think he knew those origins when he tweeted it? No. I think it was just a funny gif. Do I think he was inciting violence against the media? No. I recognize a metaphor when I see it. I'm just baffled how so many can rush to this a-hole's defense while lambasting NPR for sharing the Declaration of Independence.
We're definitely on different ends of the political spectrum, but I feel I can have a good conversation with you from enjoying your non-political writings. I rarely dip my toe in these waters otherwise.
We can agree to disagree but honestly it's a gif off a clip from an old WWE program where the "victim" was the chairman of the board Vince McMahon and he just replaced his face with a CNN logo. This whole hyper political landscape argument of everything is racist is just silly because they are clips of actual movies, tv shows, and skits that just replace a person's face with a CNN logo. Last time I looked in April they were down looks like they are up this past month maybe people like watching junk or want to tune into the hyper reactions of everything but when you do a story like the President is afraid of stairs or the MLK bust has been removed from Oval Office I don't feel any sympathy for a network that can't do it's due diligence. As far as not seeing anything else coming from the other side there isn't but one network that isn't run by left leaning editors & producers and that is Fox News where it was recently shown 52 negative to 48 which is much closer to fair and balanced than 92 & 98% negative by CNN and MSNBC coverage of the current President.
