The Blatant Manipulation of The Wall
The wall is brilliant in a way. Not for keeping out Mexicans, even Trump has admitted in speeches that they could get over the wall with a rope and a ladder.
No, it's brilliant in its catchiness and as a trap for opponents. It's easy to chant "Build a Wall" and get everyone cheering along.
Then some liberal, or any sane person, will point out how stupid a wall is. How people can go around it in the water, or climb over it, or tunnel under it.
That's when the trap gets sprung:
"They don't care about border security!"
The Wall is a great manipulative tool that you can use it to make anyone who doesn't want a want a wall look like they don't want security.
No matter how false that narrative is. No matter how many better solutions are proposed.
Oh, and if someone says it's racist you can start to claim they say everything is racist too! Because, after all, it's about border security and national security. Never mind that he only wants a wall to keep Mexicans out, and he's ignoring all the other illegal immigrants that come in through airports.
What I find amazing about Trump is his trickster quality and the way he compels so much attention .. we cant seem to stop talking about him regardless of how much we want him to disappear.
Your take on the wall makes a lot of sense. Its a giant boondoggle that makes him sound like he cares about something, but the undercurrent of demonizing non-Whites clearly stems from Miller's white nationalist agenda. But of course it's also from Trump, considering his long history of racist positions. From the Birther Movement to the recent Dreamer fiasco, Trump shows himself as completely amoral and prepared to scapegoat. Basically the Birther stance says Obama is himself a Dreamer .. not legally residnt in this country, not a valid president. It is a great tragedy that Trump comes after Obama and says so much about the nation, but in a very real sense Trump needed Obama desperately. Without Obama we wouldnt have Trump. It's all very entangled.
There's also that crazy old TV show about the huckster wanting to build a wall. Its so crazy how Trump channels all this 19th century baggage.
The Wall solution is so asinine. Ridiculous amounts of labor and maintenance for a obsolete solution that has a hundred flaws. Drones surveillance of the border (and coastlines) would be far more efficient and provide a boost to an emerging industry.... but he's looking for a grand project that people can look at as a symbol of his mark upon the world. It's simply a way to placate his anti-intellectual supporters who simply aren't creative enough to innovate a more practical solution.... but hey, it worked for the Chinese right? (wrong)
Drone border security would be fucking badass! I'm literally picturing The Terminator right now...
And look, someone's already created a working drone modeled after the Hunter Killer:
It worked (kinda) in Babylon AD too.... except the drones were trying to catch Vin Diesel.... and that never ends well.
